What We Do

Agriculture
Southland Helicopters offers our customers a safe, efficient, and accurate agricultural operation. Our pilots are highly experienced and are supported by highly trained ground crew and modern loading systems for fertiliser application and spraying operations.

Our MD600N Notar helicopters are great for working at low level and around stock due to the Notar design being quieter than any other helicopter.

Spraying
With the use of digital GPS Southland Helicopters provides an accurate and efficient aerial spraying service. Our helicopters are fitted with purpose-built spray gear, and Tracmap GPS. Tracmap GPS allows state of the art new safety features that operate in conjunction with the lightbar. Using Tracmap online we can provide proof of placement and mapping to our clients. Southland Helicopters provides all types of agricultural spraying including forestry, brush weeds, cropping, desiccation, spot spraying, liquid fertilisers and wilding pines lancing.

Fertiliser and Bucket Work
We operate with our purpose-built buckets that we can adjust to suit our customers application rates and product types. Our aerial application of fertilizer and seeding saves time, covers steep ground and other difficult areas. We can work with bulk fertilisers and local transport operators to load directly into pivot-steer loader for a fast and efficient service.

Our Fleet

Southland Helicopters operates four MD600N Notar Helicopters. The MD600N boasts the outstanding handling qualities typical of all MD products, enhanced by a six-blade main rotor system. This makes the MD600N exceptionally agile and smooth. With its advanced NOTAR® anti-torque system, the MD600N is a member of an exclusive class of the safest, quietest helicopters in the world.

Passengers: 6
Cruise Speed: 134 Kts
Max Speed: 155 KIAS (sea level)

Reduced Aircraft Vibrations
A 6th blade to the main rotor system minimizes helicopter vibrations and reduces pilot and crew fatigue.

Greater Safety
NOTAR systems eliminates the risk of tail rotor strikes and enhances the safety of personnel around the helicopter

Reduce Pilot Workload
The Coanda effect is where air is expelled through two slots which run the length of the tail boom on the starboard (right) side, causing a boundary-layer control called the Coanda Effect. The result is that the tail boom becomes a “wing”, flying in the downwash of the rotor system, producing up to 60 percent of the anti-torque required in a hover. The balance of the directional control is accomplished by a rotating direct jet thruster.

Noise Reduction
NOTAR-equipped helicopters are among the quietest certified helicopters available. Designed and tested to be 50 percent quieter than any other helicopter, this is extremely useful when working at low level and around stock.
